Priorities
If elected, Judge Lawton-Evans is committed to building on the strong foundation of County Attorney Christian Menefee’s work to make Harris County a better and more prosperous place to live.
Defending Harris County from Extremists
Harris County remains at the epicenter of attacks from MAGA extremists challenging everything from our voting rights and local control of our government, to threats against our elected officials. She will zealously defend Harris County in the courtroom and in the court of public opinion to challenge and push back against these threats to our residents and our democratic values.
Preserving Our Environment
Whether it's challenging the locating of concrete batch plants in vulnerable communities, holding polluters accountable for creating cancer clusters, or the storage of dangerous chemicals and explosives in our neighborhood, she will fight for environmental justice and shield our neighborhoods from pollution and neglect. Clean water and air shouldn’t be a partisan issue, and to that end she’ll work with all residents to ask the legislature to give us the tools to hold polluters accountable.
Protecting Consumers
More than ever, affordability and the rising cost of living is the number one issue residents face. While residents try to stretch every dollar, there are those trying to exploit and cheat the system. She will continue to make sure that unscrupulous businesses aren’t taking advantage of residents. Expanding on the great work being done protecting vulnerable communities from deed fraud and price gouging, She’ll work even closer with the community by enhancing the consumer complaints portal for residents to identify and root out all fraudulent activity and launch a consumer protection campaign to let residents know we have their back. She’ll also reorganize the County Attorney Office to create a dedicated Consumer Protection division.
Building a Better Government Through Transparency & Accountability
As a Judge, she knows the importance of having an open and transparent government that is rooted in the law. From ensuring that the public has access to documents it requests, to having an open procurement system that follows both the letter and spirit of the law, it's critical that county government builds and maintains trust with the community it serves. She will work with County leaders and community stakeholders to make sure that our government is efficient, effective, and open.
“Our voices and values matter, and we will not sit quietly while extremist politicians in Texas undermine local governance and our freedoms. For the past five years, I’ve had the honor of serving this community -working to ensure our courts are fair, efficient, and accessible. As the people’s lawyer, I want to bring that same commitment to making county government work better for everyone, especially now, as our institutions come under unprecedented attacks from extremist politicians in Austin and Washington.” - Audrie Lawton Evans
